The Modern Flow Process Chart is an animated process flow chart on a single PowerPoint slide that walks your audience through a process one step at a time. It is designed for business analysts, project managers, team leads, consultants and educators who need to explain a workflow clearly without building a diagram from scratch. The video shows the slide and its animation in action.

The slide is available as a ready-made download: the Modern Flow Process Chart animated PowerPoint slide includes everything you see in the video, fully editable.

What the animated process flow chart slide includes

  • One professionally designed animated PowerPoint slide with a clean, minimal, modern layout for business workflows.
  • Smooth animations that guide the viewer through each step of the process in order.
  • Fully editable PowerPoint shapes, icons and text placeholders.
  • Support for the Selection Pane, so you can control layers and individual elements precisely.
  • Full customisation of your process steps and colours, while keeping PowerPoint's animation and layering features intact.

Why animate a process flow chart in PowerPoint?

A static flow chart shows every step at once, and the audience reads ahead of you. An animated flow reveals one step at a time, so attention stays on the step you are explaining. That is the whole value of this slide: it controls pacing. For a five-minute walk-through of a workflow, that difference is noticeable.

It also reduces the temptation to cram. When each stage appears on its own, you naturally keep the label short and say the detail out loud.

How to customise the PowerPoint flow chart template

Everything on the slide is a native PowerPoint object, so editing uses standard tools. A practical workflow:

  1. Open the Selection Pane (Home → Arrange → Selection Pane, or Alt+F10 on Windows). Rename the main objects (for example "Step 1 shape", "Step 1 text") so you always know what you are clicking.
  2. Replace the placeholder text with your own step names. Keep labels to a few words; the animation already gives each step its moment.
  3. Change the colours through Shape Fill so they match your brand. If you use a company theme, apply theme colours rather than fixed ones so the slide adapts when the theme changes.
  4. Swap the icons for ones that match your process. Keep the same size and position so the animation paths still line up.
  5. Check the Animation Pane (Animations → Animation Pane) to confirm the order still matches your process after edits. Play the slide in Slide Show view before presenting.

Tip: if you hide an object in the Selection Pane while editing, remember to unhide it before presenting. Hidden objects do not appear in the slide show.

If you want to add or adjust effects yourself, Microsoft's guide to animating text or objects in PowerPoint covers entrance effects, timing and the Animation Pane.

Presenting tips for a process slide

  • One idea per step. If a step needs two sentences to label, it is probably two steps.
  • Click, pause, explain. Let each step appear, give the audience a second to read it, then talk. Advancing too fast defeats the purpose of the animation.
  • Use colour to signal status, for example a different fill for the step your team is currently on, rather than adding extra text.
  • Rehearse with the clicker once, so you know exactly how many clicks the full flow takes.

Use cases for a workflow diagram slide

  • Business process mapping: show how a request moves from intake to completion.
  • Strategy and planning presentations: present a plan as a sequence of phases.
  • Task and workflow diagrams: explain who does what, in which order.
  • Project lifecycle breakdowns: walk stakeholders from initiation to closure.
  • Training and onboarding materials: teach a new starter a procedure step by step.

Whether you are presenting to stakeholders, running a team meeting or delivering a training session, the same slide works; only the labels change.

Pairing the slide with your data

Process slides often sit next to numbers. If you are presenting a workflow and its performance together, you can place an Excel chart or dashboard on the following slide. FAQ

How do I make an animated flow chart in PowerPoint?

Draw each step as a shape with a short label, then add an entrance animation to each one from the Animations tab and set the order in the Animation Pane so steps appear one click at a time. A ready-made template like this one gives you the layout and animation already set up.

Is this an Excel file or a PowerPoint file?

It is a PowerPoint slide. Everything, including the animation, is built with PowerPoint's own shapes, icons, text placeholders and animation features.

Can I change the process steps and colours?

Yes. The slide is fully customisable with your own process steps and colours. Use the Selection Pane to find each element and the Animation Pane to keep the reveal order correct after you edit.

How many slides are included in the template?

One professionally designed animated slide. It is focused on doing one job well: presenting a process flow clearly.
