A data analyst in the United States earns about $93,600 a year. A data analyst in India earns about $7,000. That looks like a 13× gap for the same job title. But a salary is only worth what it can buy. Once we adjust for purchasing power, the ranking changes and the gap shrinks to under 3×.
This article breaks down 2026 data analyst salaries in six countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil and India) using public data sources. We look at them first at market exchange rates and then adjusted for cost of living.
The data behind the numbers
- Salaries: 2026 averages reported on Glassdoor for the job title "Data Analyst" (Glassdoor Brasil for Brazil).
- Exchange rates: market rates on September 29, 2026 (USD/INR 96.04, USD/BRL 5.22, USD/EUR 0.881, USD/GBP 0.755).
- Cost of living: the World Bank's purchasing power parity (PPP) conversion factor for household consumption, 2025.
Data analyst salaries by country at market exchange rates (2026)
| Country | Average salary (local) | In US dollars |
|---|---|---|
| 🇺🇸 United States | $93,595 / year | $93,595 |
| 🇳🇱 Netherlands | €65,000 / year | $73,763 |
| 🇩🇪 Germany | €61,000 / year | $69,224 |
| 🇬🇧 United Kingdom | £37,603 / year | $49,779 |
| 🇧🇷 Brazil | R$5,250 / month | $12,061 |
| 🇮🇳 India | ₹670,500 / year | $6,982 |
Some details behind each figure:
- United States: entry-level roles average about $63,000, and senior data analysts average more than $132,000.
- Germany: juniors start around €50,500 and seniors reach about €75,000.
- Netherlands: the typical range is €53,000–€78,000.
- United Kingdom: London pays more, at around £42,400.
- Brazil: the figure is 12 × the monthly average. It does not include the 13th salary most formal workers receive.
- India: freshers start much lower, while the top 10% earn close to ₹19.8 lakh (AmbitionBox).
Why the nominal ranking is misleading
Rent, food and transport cost far less in Mumbai than in New York. To compare what a salary actually buys, economists use purchasing power parity (PPP). PPP asks how much local currency you need to buy what $1 buys in the US.
| Country | Market rate (per $1) | PPP rate (per $1) | Things cost… |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | ₹96.04 | ₹19.84 | 4.8× cheaper |
| Brazil | R$5.22 | R$2.58 | 2.0× cheaper |
| Germany | €0.88 | €0.72 | 1.2× cheaper |
| United Kingdom | £0.76 | £0.70 | 1.1× cheaper |
| Netherlands | €0.88 | €0.77 | 1.1× cheaper |
Data analyst salaries adjusted for purchasing power
| Rank | Country | Real buying power (international $) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 🇺🇸 United States | $93,595 |
| 2 | 🇩🇪 Germany | $84,840 |
| 3 | 🇳🇱 Netherlands | $84,746 |
| 4 | 🇬🇧 United Kingdom | $53,566 |
| 5 | 🇮🇳 India | $33,797 |
| 6 | 🇧🇷 Brazil | $24,409 |
Three things change
- The US–India gap shrinks from 13.4× to 2.8×. It is still a big gap, but a very different story.
- India overtakes Brazil. In real buying power, an average Indian analyst is ahead of an average Brazilian analyst.
- Germany and the Netherlands land within about 10% of the US. The UK stays behind, making it the weakest of the three European countries in this comparison.
Will AI make these salaries disappear?
This is the question everyone in the field is asking in 2026. The official projections say no, at least not yet. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects data scientist jobs to grow 35% between 2025 and 2035, one of the fastest rates of any occupation, with a median wage of $120,230.
What AI is changing is who gets paid. In the US, the same job title ranges from about $63,000 at entry level to more than $132,000 at senior level. The analysts moving up that ladder use AI for the repetitive work (cleaning data, first drafts of formulas, summarizing) and spend their time on analysis and insight.
How to move up the ladder
- Master the fundamentals: Excel PivotTables, dashboards and data cleaning are still the daily tools of most analysts. Start with our free practice datasets.
- Build a portfolio: a few finished dashboards say more than a certificate. Our dashboard templates show what professional reports look like.
- Add AI to your workflow: use it to speed up the work, not to replace your judgment.
