Show or hide Excel sheet tabs and scroll bars

Excel lets you control whether worksheet tabs and scroll bars appear for each workbook.

  1. Open the workbook you want to change.
  2. Select File › Options.
  3. Choose Advanced.
  4. Scroll to Display options for this workbook and confirm the correct workbook is selected.
  5. Select a check box to show an item, or clear it to hide the item:
    • Show horizontal scroll bar
    • Show vertical scroll bar
    • Show sheet tabs
  6. Select OK to apply the changes.

If worksheet tabs are still missing

Maximize the workbook window and check whether the horizontal scroll bar is taking most of the available space. You can drag the small divider beside the horizontal scroll bar to reveal more sheet tabs. Also confirm that the worksheets themselves are not hidden by opening Home › Format › Hide & Unhide › Unhide Sheet.
